• "A subsequent tasting revealed one of the all-time great Ducrus, probably matched or eclipsed by several recent vintages (i.e., 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2008). The 1982 is still 5-8 years away from full maturity, but it exhibits a dense ruby/plum/garnet color to the rim as well as a sweet perfume of forest floor, spice box, cedar, and copious quantities of black fruits. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully pure with sweet tannins, this wine has aged more slowly than I initially expected. It is the finest Ducru Beaucaillou produced after the 1961 and before the 2003." 

TASTING

Serving Château Ducru-Beaucaillou requires a certain amount of attention in order to enjoy it in the best possible conditions. 

Here are a few tips for serving and tasting this wine:

• Serving temperature: Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a powerful, complex red wine. We recommend serving it at a temperature of around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. This will allow the aromas and flavors to express themselves fully.
• Aeration: This wine needs to be well aerated before tasting. We recommend decanting for at least an hour before serving. This will allow the aromas to develop and the tannins to soften.
• Glass: Use a tulip-shaped wine glass, which will allow the aromas to concentrate and release their fragrance. Be sure to fill the glass to about a third or half of its capacity, to facilitate agitation and oxygenation of the wine.
• Tasting: First observe the wine's color. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou generally has a deep red color. Next, dip your nose into the glass and breathe in the aromas. You can detect notes of ripe black fruit, spices, cedar and tobacco.
• On the palate, this wine is often characterized by a fine tannic structure, intense concentration and great complexity. You can perceive flavors of black fruit, cassis, licorice, vanilla and roasting. Take time to savor each sip and let the flavors evolve on your palate.
