94/100 Wine Spectator
Tasted by Kristen Bieler: ‘Expressive and seductive, with a harmonious blend of red licorice, currant and boysenberry, underpinned by hints of alder and lavender. It displays the lightness of the vintage, with a hint of white pepper, but shows great inner density. Notes of dusty earth, potpourri and smoke grace the energetic palate, with a hint of dried bacon. Graceful and delicious. Drink it from 2025 to 2040.
New cuvée from the estate:
The 2021 vintage marks the launch of Emmanuel Darnaud's Hermitage, made from the renowned Greffieux, Bessards and Meal plots. These vines, some of which are over a hundred years old, are among the most prestigious in the appellation. Already highly sought-after, this wine now stands out for its exceptional value for money.

Emmanuel Darnaud produces remarkably expressive wines from his 15 hectares of Crozes-Hermitage. Each plot is meticulously cared for, with manual harvesting and parcel-by-parcel vinification, to reveal the unique essence of each terroir. This know-how is reflected in elegant, generous wines.
In addition to his renowned Crozes-Hermitage, Emmanuel owns 1.7 hectares of vines aged between 30 and 80 years in Saint-Joseph, on south-east-facing granite soil. He has also inherited the jewel in the crown: a parcel in Hermitage, handed down by his father-in-law, local legend Bernard Faurie. Many winemakers in the northern Rhône claim that in certain vintages, Faurie's reds rivalled those of Jean-Louis Chave.
Alcohol content: 13.5%.
