From the wine estate - Monopole
96/100 Wine Spectator & 98/100 James Suckling
- Tasted by William Kelley in 2022: "The 2020 Corton Grand Cru Clos des Cortons Faiveley is powerful and multidimensional, with terrific concentration, acidic acids, and a long, saline finish. It blends deep fruit tones reminiscent of red cherry and plum with notions of loamy soil, licorice, orange peel, rose petals and sweet spice. This wine shows tremendous promise."
- Cellaring potential: 10 to 25 years
- Pairings : Foie gras semi-cooked with armagnac, game, quail, partridge, fruity cheeses such as Cîteaux or Reblochon
THE VINTAGE
2020 is a sunny vintage but the wines show a lot of freshness and no trace of over-ripeness. The winter was mild with very little rainfall. In spring, there were significant frosts but the low humidity in the air preserved the vines. After a second cold period in mid-May, the summer was very dry except for a few isolated storms (Nuits-Saint-Georges - Vougeot). We started harvesting on August 19th, a historically early date, and finished on September 1st.
CHARACTERISTIC OF THE APPELLATION
Monopoly of the Faiveley family since 1874, the "Clos des Cortons Faiveley" is the jewel of the domain and one of the only two Grands Crus of Burgundy bearing the name of its owner (with Romanée-Conti).

VINIFICATION & MATURATION
The grapes are cut and sorted by hand. The proportion of destemming varies according to each vintage. A daily punching of the cap is done to extract the color, the tannins and the aromas from the grapes. After 19 days of vatting, the alcoholic fermentation is completed. The free-run wine is drained by gravity while a slow and gentle pressing of the marc allows to obtain a press wine of great purity. For 18 months, our wines are aged in French oak barrels (50% new barrels and 50% one-wine barrels) in our cellars with a natural and constant hygrometry and temperature. These barrels are selected for the fineness of their grain and their moderate toasting.
TASTING
The color is ruby with purple reflections, limpid and brilliant. The nose is powerful, concentrated, with fruity (black cherry) and spicy notes. The ample and round mouth contains a great energy and an intense concentration. It is balanced and offers a great aromatic persistence. The finish is elegant. It is an excellent wine to keep.
