Order wine Mercurey White Clos Rochette 2022 Monopole - Faiveley
From the estate
90/100 Parker
The Faiveley family began producing wine from leased vines in Mercurey in 1933, and eventually began acquiring land there three decades later. Today, with more than 72 hectares under their belt, they are equally among the most important landowners of the Côte Chalonnaise and its quality references. The 2019 vintage is particularly successful here; and while average yields are falling as a result of increasing vine age and weather conditions, the compensation seems to be that the wines are getting better and better. Indeed, the 2019 portfolio is the finest set of Côte Chalonnaise wines I have ever tasted from Faiveley.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE APPELLATION
This parcel is adjacent to La Framboisière. In the Clos Rochette, the soils are particularly compact, hard to plough, littered with small rocks giving their name to this climate. This parcel has been a Monopole of the Domaine since 1933.
- Exposure : South-East
- Soil : Clay-limestone - compact soil
- Grape Variety: Chardonnay
- Surface Area: 5 ha 45 a 25 ca - (13.47 Acres)

VINIFICATION & MATURATION
The grapes are cut and sorted by hand. The must is extracted with a pneumatic press, then settled. The alcoholic fermentation is accomplished in 4 weeks and for part (55%) in French oak barrels, of which 25% are new. The maturation continues during 16 months with a regular stirring of the lees, the other part of the vintage being matured in vats. This allows the wine to acquire delicate woody notes while preserving its freshness and typicity.
TASTING
This wine presents a beautiful aromatic complexity. The nose is fresh with aromas of white flowers and spices. A nice vivacity at the beginning of the mouth is balanced with the roundness and the fatness acquired during the ageing in oak barrels. The marriage of flavors is harmonious to offer a wine of great delicacy.
