3ème grand cru classé in Margaux, Château Ferrière is a rare wine, popular among connoisseurs for its full-bodied and voluptuous character.
What are the specificities of Château Ferrière?
The wines of ChâteauFerrière were born from the association of 2 influential first cousins: one being a royal civil servant and the other being the mayor of Bordeaux. From the 18th century until 1914, the two cousins of the Ferrière family presided over and managed the estate with passion. Afterwards, the estate changed hands many times as it was bought in 1914 by Armand Feuillerat, already owner of the Château Marquis de Terme, who gave it as a gift to his daughter. Thereafter, the Château Lascombes leased it out in 1951 and Alexis Lichine then made it a trademark.
In 1992, it is the renaissance of the Château Ferrière thanks to the abandonment of the farming operation. The Villars family, then owners, restored the estate. The starting point of a second life for the estate.
Château Ferrière is a blended wine made from the following grape varieties:
Ideally situated, the vines, which are on average 45 years old, are planted on very deep Garonne gravel soils that lie on limestone marls. With a production of 50,000 bottles per year and a surface area of 12 hectares, the Château Ferrière is one of the smallest vineyards in the Grands Crus classés in Médoc.
The culture of the vineyard is traditional and the harvest is manual with sorting on stumps and on tables. The vinification is carried out in thermo-regulated concrete and wooden vats. The wine is then aged for 18 months in 40% new barrels.
The Château Ferrière is reputed to be surprisingly consistent and perfectly balanced. Moreover, it is reasonably priced for a Margaux of this stature.
The estate also produces a second wine "Les Remparts de Ferrière" from the youngest vines.
