What are the specificities of Château Fieuzal?
Château de Fieuzal, like many Bordeaux estates, is named after one of the first owners who ran the estate at the beginning of the 19th century. Later, the vineyard belonged to the Griffon family. The Griffon had the honour of filling the Vatican cellars with their wines from the Graves region. After being the property of the Ricard family, the Château de Fieuzal is now owned by Lochlann Quinn, who bought it in 2001. Since 2006, Hubert de Bouard has been part of their team as a consultant. The following year, in 2007, Stephen Carrier is hired as director and winemaker.
Its terroir of gravel, sand, clay and small white stones in the soil has a particularity: the stream of Eau Blanche, which adds the necessary humidity in hot and dry vintages.
The 39-hectare vineyard of Château de Fieuzal for red wines is planted as follows:
The white grape varieties of this wine are planted with an equal mixture of 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Semillon.
After vinification in a combination of 9 stainless steel vats and 54 new fermentation vats, the wines are aged in new French oak barrels from 35 to 50% on average for 16 to 24 months, depending on the grape varieties and the style of the vintage.
In order to best express its terroir, the estate produces a second wine, L'Abeille de Fieuzal.
