Château Filhot, owned by Comte Henri de Vaucelles, is a 350-hectare wine-growing estate, including 62 hectares of vines. It is located in the commune of Sauternes. In the AOC Sauternes, the château Filhot is classified second grand cru in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification. The production is 90,000 bottles per year.
Quite typical in the Sauternes family, it is one of the "driest" of the sweet wines, which does not prevent it from being among the fruitiest. This particularity is explained by the owner refraining from ageing wine in new oak barrels. The exceptional situation of the terroir should have enabled it to do better than the production tasted during the 1960s and 1970s. The opinions expressed by various tasters were heard by Henri de Vaucelles. Since 1986, Filhot has regained its rank as a Second Cru.
