Château Fombrauge 2017
Grand cru classé - St Emilion
92/100 James Suckling & 92/100 Parker
Review by Lisa Perrotti-Brown: "Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Fombrauge reveals itself right from the glass with notes of baked cherries, plum jam and raspberry tart, as well as hints of tobacco, cedar and undergrowth. Fairly full-bodied, the palate offers a soft, chewy texture and pleasant freshness, with a long, fragrant finish." Tasting in 2020.
Château Fombrauge 2017 is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé that embodies all the charm of the great wines of Bordeaux's right bank. Made from a blend dominated by Merlot, with a touch of Cabernet Franc and Malbec, this 2017 vintage offers beautiful aromatic complexity. On opening, the wine reveals generous notes of ripe black fruit, morello cherry and blackcurrant, enhanced by delicate touches of spice, cocoa and noble wood. Full-bodied and silky on the palate, with a fine tannic structure and a lingering finish of licorice and light tobacco.
This vintage, marked by finesse and balance, bears witness to the expertise of Château Fombrauge, one of the oldest estates in Saint-Émilion. Thanks to precision viticulture and careful barrel ageing, this wine reveals the full potential of its clay-limestone terroir. Already enjoyable today after light decanting, it will also evolve favorably in the cellar for several more years. A must for Bordea lovers
