Gigondas 2010 "Valbelle" - Chateau de St Cosme

90% Grenache - 10% Syrah. Whole harvest. Co-fermentation of five parcels of old vines (average 80 years old) Sand - Miocene Marls - Limestone Clay. Aged for twelve months: 30% new - 40% one wine - 30% two wines. I have often talked about co-fermentation and the magic of ratatouille: cooking together is not the same as blending afterwards. Wealth comes from exchange: nature can provide us with a thousand proofs in this respect. Valbelle 2010 is in line with the great Valbelle vintages: 1995, 1996, 2005 and 2007. It was a joy to vinify it because the smells exhaled by this fermenting vat revealed all the components of the cuvée, until they were blended together to find the identity of the cuvée... It's funny, but the wine that is a few years old looks like the must in fermentation. As in humans, the deep personality is better revealed at certain times than at others. We'll have to keep this bottle. Wild raspberry, white pepper, graphite, laurel. Bottled without filtration.
