65% Grenache - 15% Syrah - 18% Mourvèdre - 2% Cinsault. Whole harvest. Aged for twelve months: 15% in new barrels - 55% in barrels of 1 to 4 wines - 30% in vats. Limestone marls and sands from the Miocene. When making the blends for a vintage such as 2014, we are linked to the reality of a year in which nothing could be left to chance, and to the obligation to offer a bottle worthy of the level of quality to which Saint Cosme must be held. It is inevitably a moment of discipline. As a winemaker, one has to accept that the ideal vintage is after all quite a rare event. 25% of the 2014 classic did not have the required level: they were downgraded and will not carry the estate label. Therefore, the whole of Valbelle as well as part of the Claux will be included in the blend of the classic. This way of self-discipline is fundamental for the Domaine and for you, our customers, who trust us. All this reminds me of the 2008 vintage: it was difficult to vinify Valbelle and finally blend it into the classic, but when I taste this wine 7 years later, I am happy to have done so: taste the 2008s from Saint Cosme if you still have some, and you will see what this terroir is capable of in a slightly colder vintage. Just after I completed my blending work this year, an important client, a fine connoisseur of Saint Cosme, described the classic 2014 as "Valbelle en puissance". This is the best compliment that could be made. In line with the estate's great classics, the 2014 is bursting with aromas of stewed strawberry, vibrant fruit, camphor, and offers the balance and eternal freshness already found in my father's wines. Crushed strawberry, camphor, violet, almond, graphite. Bottled without filtration.
