Gigondas 2018 - Domaine du Clos des Tourelles - Famille Perrin
(93 - 95)/100 Parker
Maturity: 2021 - 2035
Comment by Joe Czerwinski on August 30, 2019: "With grenache yields down by a quarter this year, the Gigondas Clos des Tourelles 2018 is only 65% grenache, the rest being a blend of mourvèdre and syrah. Aged in concrete and lightning, it offers leather and cherry notes on the nose. It is full-bodied, more robust and stronger than L'Argnée, but almost as silky and elegant on the long finish".
DESCRIPTION : Vineyards and old vines of this estate, whether in the middle of the hillsides or in the "Clos", on this terroir of Gigondas, give the wine a unique elegance and aromatic finesse.
SITUATION : The Domaine des Tourelles is located below the village of Gigondas. Its vineyard, comprising a "clos" directly adjoining the property and the village, is oriented north-west and benefits from a fresh microclimate allowing late harvests.
TERROIR : The soils of the estate are limestone, with a very particular marl-sand matrix, which is most noticeable within the "clos".
ELABORATION : The date of harvest is defined following very regular controls of maturity and tasting of the berries. The harvest is manual and the greatest care is taken with the bunches of grapes which are put whole in vats. After a few days of maceration, the fermentation starts spontaneously with the indigenous yeasts. Extraction is essentially done by light punching of the cap. After pressing in a vertical press, the wines are aged for a year and a half in tuns.
