Gigondas 2019 - L'Argnée Vieilles Vignes - Famille Perrin
The Cuvée: Less than a hectare of vines of about 100 years old, that's where this wine with exceptional aromas comes from.
- AGEING TIMES : To be drunk now until 2035.
- DESCRIPTION: A small parcel of less than one hectare of pre-phylloxera vines (about 100 years old). Yields are low as production is limited to 1,500 bottles/year.
- SITUATION : In the South-West of the appellation, in the heart of the historical vineyard of Gigondas.
- TERROIR : Sandy soil.
- ELABORATION : The harvest is manual. On arrival in the cellar, the grapes are sorted and vatted in 50hl truncated cone-shaped vats. The Grenache grapes are destemmed unlike the Syrahs. After a maceration phase, the fermentation begins. The extraction and the temperature are controlled according to the daily tasting. We work the vats by punching down or pumping over. The vatting process continues after the fermentation. After devatting, the wines are aged for a year and a half in tuns.
How did the 2019 vintage go?
After an early bud break in early April, flowering was progressive and took place in good conditions throughout the vineyard. Then, the summer was scorching from the end of June. But the vines resisted very well! They suffered little from water stress, thanks in particular to the camomile teas sprayed on the vegetation to cope with the strong heat peak. Finally, the harvest went on as usual, without any particular precocity. The wines are full of promise for a vintage in 9 born, once again, under a lucky star.
