Pessac-Léognan - Premier Grand Cru Classé
100/100 Parker: legendary vintage. A very rare wine
- When to drink this wine? Grand cru at maturity, can be drunk now.
- Parker's 1998 tasting: "The dark garnet-coloured 1961 Haut-Brion is pure perfection, with gloriously intense aromas of tobacco, cedar, chocolate, minerals and sweet red and black fruits, complemented by smoky wood. This wine has always been prodigious (it was Jean Delmas' first vintage). It is extremely full-bodied, with layers of viscous, sweet fruit. This wine is like a sweet. It's always an astonishing wine!
SERVICE
Château Haut Brion is best served at 15°C. For wines that have not undergone barrel ageing, decanting is not necessary. Aeration in a carafe is recommended when the wine is young and has been matured in oak barrels. For older wines, it is preferable to decant them a few hours before serving. This can also apply to young wines when aeration is involved. The length of time to open in advance will be determined at the time of tasting, depending on how the wine evolves in the glass. When decanting, be careful not to let the sediment fall into the decanter, as it is never pleasant to have small pieces in your mouth when tasting.
