Paleo 2018 - Le Macchiole
Tuscany
97/100 Parker
When to drink this wine: Excellent aging potential. Estimate: 2023 - 2045
Tasted by Monica Larner in 2021: "One could say that this wine changed Italian wine, as it was the first to fully embrace the potential of Cabernet Franc in the bel paese. The 2018 Le Macchiole paleo has a spicy, tart personality with dark fruit, bitter chocolate and tarry smoke. Returning to my bottle opened 24 hours later, I got an essence of green olive and rosemary. The palate fleshes out considerably, and there's a nice structure to hold it firmly together. Other Bolgheri winemakers have told me about their struggles with Cabernet Franc in the 2018 vintage, which saw rain late in the season. This wine seems magically immune to those issues and likely means that the expert vineyard team harvested at the right time."
