Domaine Jamet was founded in 1950 by Joseph Jamet with 35 hectares of vines in the northern Vallée du Rhône. Initially, the property sold its harvest to traders. They began bottling and selling their own wine in 1976.
Today, Jamet is run by two brothers, Jean-Paul Jamet and Jean Luc, who took over the production of Jamet Cote Rotie from their father in 1991. At the time, Jamet had only 4 hectares of vines, which explains why this vintage is difficult to find today.
Since then, the brothers have more than doubled the size of their estate. The Jamet estate is located in Le Vallin, not far from the top of the hill, just behind Ampuis. In 2001, Jamet completed the renovation and modernisation of the cellars. In 2015, Domaine Jamet added a new wine to its range by producing its first vintage of Condrieu.
Domaine Jamet produces three different Côte Rotie wines from 8.5 hectares of vines spread over 25 plots in the Cote Rotie appellation. These vines are planted in no less than 17 different locations. The family owns more land on the Côte Brune, with about 25% of its vines planted on the Côte Blonde.
On the Côte Brune, their largest plantations are in the lieux-dits of Chavaroche and Truchet.
On the Côte Blonde, their largest plantations are in the Lancement vineyard. Their vines are on average between 25 and 50 years old. They have old vines, some of which were planted in the early 1940s.
The essence and character of Domaine Jamet are the direct result of the blending of wines from the distribution of the plots and the diversity of the terroirs and rocky soils. Perhaps their best vines are planted on the Côte Brune in the Les Moutonnes, Rochains, Fongeant, Chavaroche and La Landonne vineyards on hillside with soils of granite, rock, shale, iron, clay, limestone and sand.
Their vines are planted almost 100% in Syrah. Their oldest vines are over 60 years old. On the Côte Blonde, they have plots planted at Lancement and Leyat.
