Klein Constantia Natural Sweet Wine - South African Wine

About the Klein Constantia estate

Klein Constantia and the Constantia vineyard, located in South Africa in the district of Constantia. Dating back to 1685 and considered one of the most beautiful wine estate in the world, the Klein Constantia is nestled among century-old trees in the upper foothills of the Constantiaberg, overlooking False Bay. The perfect place for cool climate wines, Klein Constantia produces some of South Africa's finest wines, including one of the world's finest natural sweet wines, Vin de Constance. After the devastation in the vineyards caused by phylloxera at the end of the 19th century, the wine was revived by Klein Constantia in 1986, reaffirming the place of this natural sweet wine, unique in history. Since its reintroduction, Vin de Constance has regularly appeared on the lists of the world's best wines. The 2007 vintage was awarded 97 points by Neal Martin of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, making it the highest rated South African sweet wine in history.

Today, Klein Constantia continues to make wines that reflect Constantia's fresh climate and historic tradition under the watchful eye of talented winemaker Matthew Day.

Matthew grew up in Johannesburg, but a keen interest in winemaking led him to move to Cape Town to pursue studies in this field. After graduating from the University of Stellenbosch with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Oenology, Matt worked in a variety of local and international fields to gain vital experience.
