- By David Schildknecht in 2007: "The 2005 La Tache embodies the unique mysteries of Pinot (without forgetting the character of a great site), with its aromas of game, musk, iris, star anise, vanilla, allspice, and of course also an abundance of sweet, ripe, implosive, tiny fruit. Imagine a black Riesling. On the palate, the lively freshness of the fruit, the pungency of the spices and flowers, and the melting of what is, in fact, an abundance of tannins, all engender a dynamic almost worthy of a white wine, with a fruity, mineral response and a clear, incisive penetration of flavors into every nook and cranny of the mouth."
Do you know this cuvée?
Cuvée Romanée-Conti La Tâche is widely regarded as one of the world's most prestigious and sought-after wines. It is produced by the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in Burgundy, France, and is renowned for its excellence and rarity.
FIND OUT MORE:
It is a red wine from the Pinot Noir grape variety, and is renowned for its complex character, concentration and ageing potential. The grapes used to produce this wine come from a single vineyard, also called La Tâche, which is located near Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti owns a small parcel of vines in this vineyard, and only a few thousand bottles of La Tâche are produced each year, making it an extremely rare wine.
SERVICE
In terms of serving and tasting, we recommend serving La Tâche at a temperature slightly cooler than room temperature, generally between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius. It's best to decant the wine for an hour or two before tasting, as this allows the aromas and flavors to develop fully.
TASTING ADVICE:
On tasting, you can expect intense aromas of ripe red fruit, cherry, licorice, spice and undergrowth. On the palate, La Tâche offers a silky texture, elegant structure, fine tannins and a long finish. It is often described as powerful, complex and profound.
