Located just north of the village of Margaux, Château Labegorce is a 53-hectare wine estate. Today, the Rive Gauche estate of the Margaux appellation is managed by Hubert Perrodo's daughter, Nathalie Perrodo. You could find it on our website !
Its terroir, composed mainly of gravel, clay, sand and a little sand mixed with limestone soil, plays a role in the making of this Margaux wine, which is constantly improving.
For centuries before the French Revolution, the estate was one of the largest properties in Médoc. But the lands of the Margaux estate were divided after the Revolution, creating three separate estates Château Labegorce, Labegorce Zédé, L'Abbe Grosse de Grosse. However, the vineyard of Château Labegorce remains the largest of the three Margaux properties.
In 1989, Hubert Perrodo bought the estate with the aim of combining the 3 vineyards into one. After the purchase of Abbe Grosse in 2002, he completed the last piece of the puzzle in 2005 with the acquisition of Labegorce Zédé.
The vineyard offers a wine tasting composed of different grape varieties:
After vinification in a combination of cement and stainless steel vats, the wine of the Château Labegorce is aged in 50% new French oak barrels for an average of 15 months.
Thanks to its human and technical investments, Château Labegorce has been showing improvements in its wines since 2009, vintage after vintage. 2015 seems to be the best vintage produced by the estate!
In order to make the most of its terroir, the Château also produces a second wine, Zédé de Labégorce, inspired by the former Domaine de Labegorce Zédé.
