Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey - Sauternes

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey, is a 41-hectare wine-growing estate located in Bommes in the Gironde. In AOC Sauternes, it is classified Premier Grand Cru in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification.

What are the specificities of Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey?

Dated 1618, ChâteauLafaurie-Peyraguey took the name of the first two owners (Sieur Raymond Peyraguey and then Pierre Lafaurie). Owned by the Cordier family for a long time, GDF Suez bought the estate in 1984. GDF Suez then renovated the facilities as well as the Château in 2000. In 2014, Silvio Denz, owner of numerous châteaux, became the owner of domaine Lafaurie Peyraguey.

Château Lafaurie Peyraguey is mainly located in the commune of Bommes although it has vineyards in Fargues, Preignac and Sauternes. Enjoying a silica-gravel and clayey-gravel terroir, the 41-hectare estate produces a wine made from different grape varieties:

The wine of this Château has already improved considerably since Silvio Denz became the owner. At the head of the vineyard is Eric Larramona. The yields are lower and come only from the 17 best plots in the vineyard. With a view to respecting the environment, the estate makes it a point of honour to use integrated viticulture without any chemical herbicides. Thanks to the efforts of the different owners, the cru has become a sure value of the appellation.

With a yield of around 18 hl/ha depending on the vintage, and traditional maturing for 18 to 20 months in barrels, the estate produces 66,000 bottles a year of château Lafaurie-Peyraguey. With less than 40% of the harvest destined for the blending of its Grand Vin, the estate also produces a second wine, La Chapelle de Lafaurie-Peyraguey, with 24,000 bottles a year.

Best vintages of Lafaurie-Peyraguey: 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2003, 2001, 1990, 1989, 1988, 1986, 1983 and 1926.
