Pauillac - Premier Grand Cru Classé
NOTATION : 95/100 Robert Parker - 98/100 James Suckling
Aging potential : 2024 - 2045
Tasted by Neal Martin on March 31, 2017: "The 2014 Lafite-Rothschild, tasted with head winemaker Eric Kohler, retained that very opulent, extroverted bouquet that, dare I say it, reminded me of Mouton-Rothschild. There are layers of blackberries and boysenberries, still that hint of juniper berries, certainly a more extroverted Lafite-Rothschild compared to recent vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, very concentrated and quite linear, again with lots of black fruit mixed with cedar and tobacco. It starts to lock in towards the saline finish, suggesting it will need several years in bottle, but I still have high expectations for this first growth once it has benefited from several years in bottle. "
TERROIR
The 2014 Chateau Lafite Rothschild is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot.
SERVICE
Chateau Lafite Rothschild should be decanted 2 hours or more. It is best served between 16 and 18°C. This will allow the wine to soften and open up its flavor. For wines that have not been aged in barrels, decanting is not necessary. Aeration in a carafe is recommended when the wine is young and has been aged in oak barrels.
