Château Langoa-Barton is a 25-hectare wine estate located between Beychevelles and Saint-Julien. It has been classified Troisième Grand Cru of the appellation in 1855.
The Barton family, current owners of the Château Langoa Barton, can trace its Bordeaux roots back to 1722. Château Langoa Barton has a unique distinction. Indeed, of all the crus classés of 1855, it is the only château still in the hands of the same family that owned it at the time of classification. Today, the Château Langoa Barton is directed by Anthony Barton and Lilian Barton.
The style of Château Langoa Barton remains different from their other field, Château Leoville Barton. Much of this is of course related to their vineyard. The vines of Langoa Barton are south-facing from Leoville Barton with a higher proportion of Merlot on a more clayey soil. It is distinguished by a beautiful aromatic nose, often very ripe, and a rather full mouth.
The vineyards are divided into 5 main blocks. These parcels are then divided into more than 15 separate plots of vines not far from Château Leoville Barton, Château Leoville Poyferre, Château Ducru Beaucaillou and Château Beychevelle.
The 25 hectares of the vineyard located on a gravel and clay soil produces a wine composed of 3 grape varieties:
The wines are traditionally vinified in large wooden vats of 200 hectolitres. To be more precise, the vineyard uses co-inoculation. The wine of the Château Langoa Barton is then aged on average 50% in new French oak barrels for about 20 months.
Aromatic richness, structure and aging potential are not lacking.
The Château Langoa Barton combining harmony, balance, aromatic richness and structure is worthy of the Great Wines of the Saint-Julien appellation.
A second wine is produced at the Château: "Lady Langoa."
