Château Latour is one of the oldest Bordeaux wine estates in the Pauillac appellation, with a history dating back to the 14th century! It is believed that the original tower of Saint-Lambert, giving rise to the name Latour, was created in the second half of the 14th century.
Since 1996, Château Latour has produced some of the finest wines in its history. Among the most emblematic modern vintages, the legendary Château Latour 1982 stands out. This majestic wine, at once powerful, structured and refined, reveals an exceptional aromatic palette: ripe blackcurrants, truffles, tobacco, spices and earthy notes. The great vintages of Château Latour often require several decades of ageing to reach their peak, but patience is rewarded with an unforgettable taste experience.
Classified as a Premier Grand Cru according to the prestigious 1855 classification, Château Latour embodies the excellence of the Pauillac vineyard. This exceptional status is shared with only four other estates: Château Margaux, Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion.
Situated in the heart of the Médoc, the estate covers 65 hectares, 47 of which are devoted exclusively to the production of its fine wines. The most prestigious vines, known as “Les Vignes de l'Enclos”, benefit from an exceptional terroir: a soil composed of gravelly hilltops on the surface and a clay subsoil at depth, ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon.
The distinctive character of Château Latour is based on a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (around 90%), complemented by Merlot (10%) and, depending on the vintage, small proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This composition gives the wines aromatic power, exceptional longevity and rare elegance.
Committed to sustainable viticulture, Château Latour adopts practices that respect the environment. Since 2008, the estate has used horses to plough certain plots, thus preserving the soil structure. In 2013, 24 hectares were already cultivated biodynamically and 7 hectares organically. This approach aims to preserve the richness of the terroir while producing wines of impeccable quality.
