Château Latour is one of the oldest Bordeaux wine estates in the Pauillac appellation, with a history dating back to the 14th century! It is believed that the original tower of Saint-Lambert, giving rise to the name Latour, was created in the second half of the 14th century.
Since 1996, Château Latour produces the best wines in its history in certain vintages! Perhaps the best wine produced in modern times is the 1982 Chateau Latour. The wine is royal. It is full-bodied, powerful, tannic, pure, and sophisticated in its style. Filled with flavours of blackcurrant, earth, truffle, spices and tobacco. Château Latour, in the best vintages, takes decades to reach its peak. Once you have tasted a bottle of Château Latour, you'll understand why it was worth the wait!
Its power and its sumptuous bouquet leave no doubt, it is indeed a Pauillac. It is a "premier grand cru " of the vineyard according to the official classification of Bordeaux wines of 1855. It shares this rare distinction with Château Margaux, Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion. It extends over 65 hectares, 47 of which are dedicated to great wines.
One of the most wanted in the world. A worldwide reputation that everyone respects. This wine is produced from the great historical vineyards "Les vignes de l'Enclos". A soil composed of gravelly hilltops, identifiable to the Médoc, then the subsoil is clayey in depth. Cabernet-Sauvignon dominates the other grape varieties by 90%. The others are 10% Merlot and, depending on the vintage, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Currently, Chateau Latour is experimenting with biodynamic and sustainable agriculture techniques in some of its plots. Indeed, the number of dynamically cultivated organic hectares has increased steadily in recent years.
In 2013, 24 hectares were under biodynamic cultivation and 7 hectares under organic farming. Starting in 2008, Château Latour started using horses to churn the soil in some of the vineyard plots. Currently, 7 horses are used to work the Enclos vineyard. Sustainable agriculture is emphasized at Château Latour.
