Les Forts de Latour 1996
Pauillac - Second wine of the Château Latour
92/100 Wine Spectator
“Stunning aromas of crushed berries and fresh flowers. Full-bodied, with wonderfully velvety tannins and a long finish. Wonderful texture and length. What a second wine!”
The second wine of a Premier Grand Cru Classé
Les Forts de Latour is the second wine of the prestigious Château Latour, one of Pauillac's most emblematic Premiers Grands Crus Classés. Made from carefully selected plots, it benefits from the estate's exceptional expertise and reflects the incomparable signature of the Pauillac terroir. This wine combines power, elegance and remarkable depth. It is composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon, accompanied by Merlot, sometimes with a touch of Petit Verdot, offering a refined tannic structure and great aromatic complexity.
Tasting and service: a unique sensory experience
Les Forts de Latour stands out for its intense bouquet of ripe black fruit, blackcurrant and cherry, accompanied by subtle notes of cedar, tobacco and sweet spices. On the palate, the attack is full and velvety, with good concentration, silky tannins and a long, racy finish. To fully appreciate this wine, we recommend decanting two hours before serving, to release its full complexity. Served at a temperature of 16-18°C, it's the perfect accompaniment to grilled prime rib, leg of lamb or a platter of mature cheeses. Its ageing potential is remarkable: it can develop and gain depth over 20 to 30 years in the cellar, offering a majestic evolution over time.
