Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2012 - Louis jadot
Grande Maison de Bourgogne
93/100 Parker
Cellaring: Drink now or cellar until 2035.
Tasted by Neal Martin in 2015 : "Louis Jadot's 2012 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a lifted, licorice-tinged bouquet with plenty of grit. The aromas do not hold back. The palate is medium-bodied, with chewy tannins, dense black fruits and a structured finish that doesn't quite deliver the complexity the aromas suggest at first, but with airing it shows subtle nuances and fine minerality. This is a great success for winemaker Frédéric Barnier and his team.
Grape variety : Pinot Noir
Serving : 16-17 °C
Garde : 10 years (even 30 years in excellent vintages)
GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION
The commune of Vougeot is located in the center of the Côte de Nuits, between Chambolle to the North and Vosne Romanée to the South. The curiosity of this village is that 75% of its vineyard is classified as Grand Cru (Clos Vougeot). Only 25% of the surface is classified as appellation communale and premier cru.
CHARACTERISTICS
The Maison Louis Jadot is the second largest owner of the 88 hectares of this Clos with about 2.5 hectares of vines out of a total of 50 hectares. The soil is limestone, more or less clayey and contains abundant pebbles useful for the drainage of the vines. The vineyard faces east.
VINIFICATION AND MATURATION
The grapes are harvested by hand in small crates in order to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The grapes are then carefully sorted by hand and destemmed. Maceration of the grapes takes place in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks. The vats are pumped over twice a day during the fermentation. The wine is aged for about 18 months in barrels from our cooperage, of which about a third are new.
