GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION
The commune of Flagey Echezeaux is located south of the Clos de Vougeot. The village is in the plain, as is Gilly les Citeaux, opposite the Clos de Vougeot and borders the commune of Vosne Romanée. The vineyard runs along the wall of Clos Vougeot, and extends to the mountain. The part in the plain can benefit from the Vosne Romanée appellation. On the hillside, there are two Grand Crus: Grands Echezeaux and Echezeaux.
CHARACTERISTICS
The limestone soil is particularly well suited to the production of Grands Crus. The vineyard of the Grand Cru "Echézeaux", exposed East-South/East, is located just above the Grands Echezeaux.
VINIFICATION AND MATURATION
The grapes are harvested by hand in small crates in order to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The grapes are then carefully sorted by hand and destemmed. Maceration of the grapes takes place in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks. The vats are pumped over twice a day during the fermentation. The wine is aged for about 18 months in barrels from our cooperage, of which about a third are new.
