Great Champagnes G.-H. Mumm

In 1827, Jacobus, Gottlieb and Phillip Mumm, son of a Cologne merchant, joined forces with Friedrich Giesler to create a champagne house in Reims. In 1852, with Georges Hermann, it becomes G.-H. Mumm and until the First World War, it experiences an unprecedented international development, in particular thanks to the name Cordon Rouge. In 1914, the business was sequestered due to the German nationality of the owners.

Several presidents succeeded one another between 1939 and 1973, including René Lalou, who gave his name to the house's cuvée Prestige. Chardonnay and pinot noir selected in twelve lieux-dits of grand cru are almost evenly split in this 1999. This champagne has a vinous and complex nose, with notes of hazelnuts and brioche. On the palate it is full and fat with a honeyed finish.
