Buy bottles of Gourt de Mautens Blanc 2020 - Jérôme Bressy
Direct from the estate
Gourt de Mautens Blanc is a unique white wine from the Vaucluse, remarkable for its varied composition. It is made from nine different grape varieties from the Rasteau terroirs. The north-west-facing plots are located on marl and clay-limestone soils, benefiting from the cool morning air and good water retention.
Jérôme Bressy uses complantation to harmonise the grape varieties and the terroir. Bressy considers the grape variety to be a simple vehicle for the terroir, which explains his choice to vinify this wine mainly in concrete and stainless steel vats to preserve the authenticity of the southern region without the aromatic influence of wood.
The grape varieties used are : Grenache blanc, Grenache gris, Clairette, Marsanne, Bourboulenc, Picardan, Roussanne, Picpoul blanc, Picpoul gris, and Viognier.
Tasting notes :
On the nose, this wine offers remarkable complexity, with aromas of toast, quince confit, white peach, pear in syrup, as well as aniseed and citrus notes. On the palate, it is exceptionally dense and full-bodied, yet impressively well-balanced. The freshness remains intact, revealing hints of pastry, grilled almonds, star anise and subtle bitterness on the finish, without any woody notes.
