Mercurey Vieilles Vignes 2018 - Faiveley
THE THOUSAND
2018 is an early vintage. We started harvesting on August 27th in Côte Chalonnaise with our Mercurey and in Côte de Beaune with the Corton " Clos des Cortons Faiveley". The harvest ended on September 15th. The sanitary state of the vines was excellent, the bunches were well supplied and ripe. This is a classic vintage that we will be able to appreciate quickly as it is already very pleasant.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE APPELLATION
This village of Côte Chalonnaise takes its name from the God Mercury (God of commerce). Mercurey is crossed by the Agrippa road which, in Roman times, linked Chalon-sur-Saône to Autun. Today, the wines of Mercurey make the reputation of this village throughout the world. Mercurey is one of the largest wine-growing communities in Burgundy with more than 600 hectares of vines.

VINIFICATION & MATURING
The grapes are cut and sorted by hand. The proportions of the destemming and the whole harvest vary according to each vintage. Two daily pigeages are carried out to extract from the skins of the grapes their colour, tannins and aromas. After 15 to 19 days of vatting, the alcoholic fermentation is completed. The free-run wine is run off by gravity, while a slow and gentle pressing of the pomace produces a press wine of great purity. For 12 months, we mature our wines in French oak barrels (10% of which are new) selected for the finesse of their grain and their moderate toasting in our cellars at natural and constant humidity and temperature.
TASTING
Our old vines are more than thirty years old and give a wine with exceptional aromatic intensity, faithfully revealing the Mercurey terroirs.
On the palate, the round and fruity attack continues on notes of ripe red berries with a touch of vanilla. This wine of great aromatic intensity is particularly delicate, structured by silky tannins. It will seduce novices and will be appreciated by enlightened wine lovers.
Goes well with: Roast duck with porcini mushrooms, mature cheeses.
Temperature: 14°C to 16°C
Ageing potential: 4 to 8 years
