The Givry 1er Cru Les Bois Gauthiers opens in the glass with aromas of blackcurrant, plum, dark chocolate and spice. Rich and fleshy, with powdery tannins and a spicy, oak-influenced finish, this south-facing site stands out as one of the broader-shouldered wines in the range.
This large 40 hectare estate is a solid source in the Côte Chalonnaise. Conventionally farmed, yields have averaged 30-35 hectolitres per hectare in recent years, and harvesting is by machine, followed by optical sorting in the cellar. Maceration of the reds is relatively long and both reds and whites are aged in barrels exclusively from the Tonnellerie François Frères.
