Looking for bottles of Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1989 ?
Grand cru classé of Grave
100/100 Parker: Rare wine, exceptional vintage.
When to drink it : Now to 2050.
Tasted by Parker in 2012: "1989, the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution, was an incredibly hot year (exceeded only by 1990 and 2003). From the moment it was put into cask, the flawless La Mission 1989 revealed a special elixir-like appearance, giving the impression that it had been designed by Chanel. It's still a blue-purple colour with just a hint of garnet, and its explosive aromas offer notes of liquorice, crème de cassis, blueberry liqueur, barbecued smoked meat, truffle and graphite. If that's not enough to make you salivate, the palate never disappointed either. Full-bodied, with extraordinary opulence and soft, well-integrated, velvety tannins, this fresh, lively, massive La Mission seems to be one of those rare wines that never goes through a closed, hostile stage. It's a compelling, multi-dimensional effort, from barrel to early to late teens. This remarkable tour de force of winemaking is one of the most profound La Mission-Haut-Brions of all time. "
