Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1990
Grand cru classé de Graves
96/100 Parker
Cellaring: Drink now or cellar until 2039.
Neal Martin in 2017: "The 1990 La Mission Haut Brion is a wine that gives so much pleasure that it seems almost immoral to criticize it. Sure, it's not in the same league as the impressive 1989, but it has such an engaging, quintessential La Mission bouquet, full of warm gravel, chestnuts, morels and bay leaves, that you instantly fall under its spell. It seems to grow in the glass. The palate is beautifully balanced with great depth, but the texture is still a bit grainy, and I noticed how it evolved almost a Musigny-like personality with time in the glass. I suggested in 2014 that it might improve with continued bottle aging. Today, I think it may have reached the top of its plateau, but the substance and persistence - the energy - of this Pessac-Léognan suggests it will give 20 years of drinking pleasure. No, it is not as good as the 1989 La Mission Haut Brion, but then again, few wines are. Tasted in May 2017. "
