Tasting by Lisa Perrotti-Brown: "Deep garnet-purple in colour, the 2016 Montrose is a little shy at first, but with a little patience it blossoms to reveal the most seductive scents of wilted roses, oolong tea, crushed rocks, wild sage, star anise and candied violets over a wonderfully pure and well-defined core of crushed blackcurrant, black raspberry and kirsch, as well as hints of pencil lead and wood smoke. The taut, muscular, fairly full-bodied palate combines intensity and finesse superbly, with a solid backbone of ripe tannins and a firm frame throughout the incredibly long, deliciously nuanced finish..."
