The AOC Moulis-en-Médoc is located between Saint Julien and Margaux. The vineyard is not directly exposed to the river but inland, which does not allow it to benefit from the advantage of the Gironde. The vineyard is therefore more sensitive to the weather than the great Médoc appellations. The Moulis-en-Medoc appellation does not have any cru classé from 1855, which also allows these wines to be very good value for money.
The best vintages are located on the Grand Poujeaux: Chasse-Spleen (one of the most emblematic castles of Bordeaux), Château Poujeaux, Château Maucaillou. These 3 châteaux easily rival certain crus classés of Saint Julien. The wines of Moulis are moreover rather similar to those of St Julien: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wines of Moulis-en-Medoc are full-bodied and supported by delicate tannins. They reveal complex aromatic bouquets of red fruits, vanilla, and notes of roasting.
The best vintages of Moulis-en-Médoc appellation are: 1982, 1989, 1990, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2015 and 2016.
