100/100 Parker: legendary vintage
Tasting : Parker
When to drink this wine : Now to 2027.
Opinion : "I'm still blown away by the 1959 Mouton, one of the greatest Moutons produced in the last thirty-five years. Every time I taste this wine, it is undeniable that Mouton produced a richer, more compelling wine in 1959 than in 1961. Surprisingly young and undeveloped, with a black/purple colour, the wine has a youthful nose of blackcurrants, minerals and new oak. It is exceptionally powerful and super-extracted, with the fruit supported by high levels of tannin and copious amounts of alcohol."
WHEN TO DRINK THIS WINE?
This is a rare and old vintage of Mouton Rothschild. It matured decades ago. You can taste it today or collect it.
THE VINEYARD
The vineyard is planted on very deep gravel, with grape varieties typical of the region: Cabernet Sauvignon (81%), Merlot (15%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (1%). This proportion is not identical in the wine, as the blend varies according to the character of each vintage.
TASTING
Presentation : Mouton-Rothschild is a great red wine from the Pauillac appellation. It has the rank of 1er grand cru classé. It is therefore part of the elite of the appellation. The 1959 vintage is pleasantly fruity, simple and fully mature.
