Pauillac - Premier Grand Cru Classé
92/100 Parker
Parker's 1998 tasting: "In previous editions of this book, I complained about the variations between bottles, but three tastings in recent years from bottles that had been perfectly preserved have revealed a splendid wine. The 1962 is extremely fragrant, with a dark garnet color that lightens at the rim. The sweet nose of jammy black fruits, cedar and smoke is followed by a fairly full-bodied, velvety-textured wine with no rough edges. This is a rich, opulent Mouton that seems to have gained character and complexity with age."
Who designed the label for Mouton Rothschild 1962?
Artist: Roberto Matta Echaurren
The estate tells you: "Tortured, suffering, the vine he designed for the label of Mouton Rothschild 1962 nevertheless hints at the promise of fruit. Witness the caption chosen by the painter: "Its tender velvet seduces the most rebellious...".
WHEN TO DRINK THIS WINE?
This is a rare and old Mouton Rothschild vintage. It matured decades ago. You can taste it today or collect it.
THE VINEYARD
The vineyard is planted on very deep gravel, with grape varieties typical of the region: Cabernet Sauvignon (81%), Merlot (15%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (1%). This proportion is not identical in the wine, as the blend varies according to the character of each vintage.
