Serving suggestions: Do not decant an old vintage like this 1972 from Mouton Rothschild. Take the time to open the bottle at least 3 or 4 hours before serving for optimal tasting.
The domain tells you about the label: "Born in Moscow, Serge Poliakoff (1900-1969) was forced to leave his country in 1919 by the Russian Revolution. After stays in Turkey and in various European cities, he settled in Paris in 1923, where he became friends with Kandinsky, then with Robert and Sonia Delaunay, whose research on colour he followed.
He was thus led to non-figurative art, and from 1945 onwards he established himself with a very personal style based on chromatic juxtaposition. Proceeding by rigorous - almost architectural - assemblies of colour patches in the form of asymmetrical polygons, Poliakoff's painting welcomes both the contrasts of violent colours and the bringing together of neighbouring tones, orange and red, green and blue. This pictorial language, of great formal austerity, nevertheless gains in intensity through the work on the material which gives rise to surprising effects of depth.
Balance, colour, firmness: his work for the label of Mouton Rothschild 1972 has all the qualities of a great wine.
