Order Pauillac wines : Château Mouton Rothschild 1994
Pauillac - Premier Grand Cru Classé
91/100 Parker & 91/100 Wine Spectator
Cellaring potential: Drink now through 2025.
Tasted in 1997 by Parker: "After unconvincing performances in two potentially great years, 1989 and 1990, Mouton-Rothschild seems to have settled down, producing fine efforts in recent vintages, culminating in the enormously promising, undeniably profound 1995. The 1994 appears to be the best Mouton-Rothschild produced after the 1986 and before the 1995 was conceived. The wine exhibits a dense, saturated purple color, followed by a classic Mouton nose of sweet black fruits intermixed with smoke, toast, spice, and cedar. With exceptional concentration, a layered feel, plenty of tannin, and rich, concentrated fruit, this wine is similar to the good 1988. Expected maturity: 2005-2025. By the way, Dutch artist Appel created a beautiful label for the 1994. Although Mouton-Rothschild may be one of the more erratic first growths, when this estate succeeds in everything it does, the wine can be as compelling as any wine made in Bordeaux."
