Château Mouton Rothschild 1995
Pauillac - Premier Grand Cru Classé
NOTATION
- 96/100 Parker
- Reviewed by Robert M. Parker, Jr. on January 1, 1998: "This is shaping up to be one of the greatest vintages of Mouton-Rothschild. It exhibits an inky/purple colour as well as a powerful nose of jammy, explosive black currants intermixed with toasty new oak, minerals, and spice. The wine is rich and deep, with extraordinary glycerin and length. This is without doubt the greatest Mouton since the 1986, with more precocious and straightforward character than that wine. A terrific level of tannin combined with low acidity (the wine's PH is about 3.8), and gorgeous layers of fruit suggest that the 1995 will be approachable after bottling, but I expect it to close down (as most Mouton-Rothschilds do) after 6-7 years in bottle, and not re-emerge for 15-20 years.
WHEN TO DRINK THIS WINE?
This is a rare and old vintage of Mouton Rothschild. You can enjoy it today or keep it until 2030.
THE VINEYARD
The vineyard is planted on very deep gravel, with grape varieties typical of the region: Cabernet Sauvignon (81%), Merlot (15%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (1%). This proportion is not identical in the wine, as the blend varies according to the character of each vintage.
LABEL PRODUCED BY JACQUES VILLON
Creation: Both a researcher and an artist, but always a refined colourist, in his work for the 1960 Mouton Rothschild label he combines the movement of birds with the geometric order of the vine.
