Château Mouton Rothschild 1998
Pauillac - Premier Grand Cru Classé
97/100 Parker : Great Vintage
Tasting by Lisa Perrotti-Brown: “Composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-brick-colored 1998 Mouton Rothschild displays lovely notes of creme de cassis, dried rose, hoisin and baking spices with underlying notions of dried cherry and blackberry, as well as hints of wood smoke, incense and forest floor. Quite full-bodied and packed with rich fruit framed by firm, chewy tannins, it's stacked with complex, evolving flavors and finishes with incredibly persistent perfumed notes. According to winemaker Philippe Dhalluin, this wine needs about three hours of decanting at this stage. I simply love the state this wine is in right now, which has plenty of ripe tertiary character yet is still very fruity. It's not going anywhere soon and should stay in the cellar for another 20 to 25 years.” Published 2018
