Pauillac - Premier Grand Cru Classé
Score : 95/100 Wine Spectator
- Cellaring : Drink now or cellar until 2045.
- Tasted by James Molesworth in 2017 : "It will improve with time but it is already concentrated and very well constructed. This wine shows the quality of this dormant vintage. Built on tannins that have a hint of austerity, it offers ample black currant, fig and blackberry flesh. Accents of bramble, tobacco and loam add to the finish, which has a lingering touch of black earth at the very end. This wine certainly has ageing potential. Best from 2021 to 2045."
- The 2011 vintage in the opinion of the winemakers: Harvest ended on 28 September. The low yields, at Mouton in particular, produced structured, deep wines with great freshness. 2011 is therefore a classic Bordeaux vintage, to be classified as a great success.
Art and the label:
Design by Guy de Rougemont - "In love with bright, warm colours, which he first used in regular geometric figures, he then turned to the "serpentine line", whose sinuosities underline or temper the contrasts of light and shade. His design for Mouton Rothschild belongs to this second style. From gold to dark red, from the brightness of the sunny vineyards to the darkness of the cellars, Rougemont takes us through all the stages of the birth of a great wine in colour.
