Volnay 1er Cru Mitans 2019 - Nicolas Rossignol
(91 - 93)/100 Parker
Tasted by William Kelley on January 14, 2021: "From a clay site at the bottom of the climate, Rossignol's 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Mitans - only the second rendering of this new cuvée - blends aromas of petals, berries, plums and spices into an inviting bouquet. Supple and luscious, with a fleshy core of fruit, powdery tannins and a generous, gourmet profile, it shows well.
- Grape variety: 100% pinot noir.
- Terroir: From vines about 65 years old planted on clay-limestone soil at the bottom of the hillside, composed of light gray-brown clay and fine white pebbles.
- Garde : Accessible today the Volnay Premier Cru Mitans can be cellared until 2030.
2019 Vintage: Rossignol began harvesting in mid-September, and it has produced a fine set of wines: rich and gourmet, they are spectacular and elegantly muscular, with ripe fruit tones, powdery tannins and succulent acids. Now comfortably ensconced in his new winery on the outskirts of Beaune, Nicolas has achieved a mature style, much more classic than his attention-grabbing aesthetic of yesteryear. Today, as I have written before, he is one of the most serious producers in the Côte de Beaune.
