By Neal Martin in 2016: "Tasted at the Palmer vertical in London, I confess I may have been harsh on the 1990 Palmer in the past, as it never quite matched the sublime 1989. However, this is the finest bottle I have come across. The nose is complex, with red cherries, allspice and undergrowth, with tertiary scents developing as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with good balance, not the most complex 1990 and not comparable to the 1990 Margaux, but there is precision here and a pleasantly savoury finish that maintains the precision. "
