Château Paveil de Luze is a 32-hectare wine-growing estate situated on a terroir, typical of Margaux, gravelly with some clay in the soil.
What are the specificities of Château Paveil de Luze?
Château Paveil de Luze has belonged to the de Luze family since 1862, when the Médoc estate was bought by Baron Alfred de Luze. No less than 6 generations have succeeded one another, making it one of the oldest estates in the appellation and more generally in the Médoc.
At the time of the initial purchase, the entire property covered 120 hectares. Since then, thanks to numerous sales of vineyard land, the estate has been reduced to its current size.
In 1973, the estate was in a state of disrepair caused by the wars and the economic crisis of 1929. The vineyard area was no more than 10 hectares. In 2005, the new generation undertook a total renovation of the estate, reviving it completely. The family then hired Stéphane Derenoncourt's team as a consultant for their Rive Gauche estate, both for the vinification and the management of the vineyard.
The family heritage has been amply preserved as Château Paveil de Luze perfectly combines finesse and elegance. The family has been working for many years to produce wines worthy of the Margaux appellation.
The vines offer a wine made from different grape varieties for tasting:
The estate makes it a point of honour to practise environmentally friendly viticulture with the cultivation of the vines using sustainable viticulture methods and the treatment of waste water.
After vinification in small temperature-controlled 150 hectolitre stainless steel vats, Paveil de Luze wine is aged on average 30% in new French oak barrels for 12 months before bottling.
In order to best express its terroir, the estate produces a second wine, Château de La Coste. Previously, the second wine was sold under the name L'Enclos de Banneret.
