Tasting notes by Neal Martin in 2016: "At 30 years of age, the gulf between the two Pichons of this vintage no longer exists. The 1986 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has long been one of the estate's best wines, along with the 1982 (although the first bottle was a little oxidised). The second bottle was representative. The classic pencil lead and cedar nose flies out of the glass, a subtle floral note developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied, with supple red fruit, a pinch of white pepper and cedar, structured compared to previous vintages and perhaps further forward on its tasting tray than previous examples."
