The grands crus and old vintages of Château Pichon-Longueville Baron are available on Comptoir des Millésimes.
Here are a few tips on the estate, the wine, and the greatest vintages.
Château Pichon-Longueville Baron, property of the Axa Millésimes group, is a 73-hectare wine-growing estate located in Pauillac, in the Gironde region of France. The Pichon-Longueville Baron estate extends over 70 hectares of vines and produces approximately 400,000 bottles per year. It is one of the main crus classés of Pauillac. In 1987, it was bought by the AXA Millésimes group, also owner of Cantenac-Brown, Petit-Village, Suduiraut. AXA built a state-of-the-art winery and cellar at Baron de Pichon-Longueville. In 2000, Christian Seely succeeded Jean-Michel Cazes as CEO. The 73-hectare Pichon-Longueville-Baron vineyard (70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc) is adjacent to that of Château Latour and rests on deep gravel beds.
The Cabernet dominant Baron de Pichon-Longueville is more muscular, tannic, and full-bodied than its neighbor across the road, Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. The second wine is Les Tourelles de Longueville, introduced with the 1986 vintage. The best examples of Pichon-Longueville Baron have a layer of unctuous, blackcurrant, and vanilla-scented fruit, intertwined with cigar box and lead pencil shavings aromas. They need to be cellared for at least 10 years.
