What the estate says:
A distinguished cuvée, made from old Pinot Noir vines grown in the prestigious Grand Cru vineyard of Verzenay, and more specifically in two emblematic lieux-dits: Les Corettes (planted in 1979) and Les Champs Saint-Martin (planted in 1967).
The typical expression of Pinot Noir is revealed in intense aromas of red fruits and citrus, supported by a subtly iodized finish. The structure is powerful yet always controlled, with great finesse.
This champagne was aged in barrels, corked for secondary fermentation, then aged for four and a half years on lees before disgorging.
Dosage: 2 g/l.
"Depending on the precise location of the vines, Verzenay champagnes can display very varied profiles, given the diversity of the terroirs in terms of soils and exposure." The 2018 vintage from Maison Paillard is a fine example. It comes from old vines located on Les Corettes—a limestone terroir where the bedrock outcrops—and Les Champs Saint-Martin, a cool, very stony, north-facing plot.
This champagne offers an elegant and lively structure, marked by classic red fruit aromas, but also notes of peach and apricot, supported by hints of citrus, including grapefruit. Although ripe and complex, it is distinguished by a freshness and tension that contrast with the more opulent style of other wines from the village, a true reflection of its origins.
