Chambolle Musigny 1er cru 2014 - Les Charmes - Louis Latour
92/100 Wine Spectator
Tasting Note : "A tightly wound 2014, with black cherry, spice and smoke flavors fused to a steely backbone of tannins. There is sweetness on the finish, even if the fruit is muted today. Best from 2019 through 2030."BS
Description : The 180 hectares of vines in the small village of Chambolle-Musigny are a gentle interlude in the range of the famous vineyards of the Côte de Nuits. Chambolle-Musigny owns 24 premiers crus including " Les Amoureuses " and " Les Charmes " generally considered as the most famous. The chalky and very stony soil produces a delicately perfumed wine. The term "Les Charmes" refers, in Burgundy, to plateaux with little vegetation or even fallow land. This is the second meaning, since this climate has remained fallow for a long time. "Les Charmes" can also refer to the presence of hornbeams, trees planted around the vineyard.
Fermentation: Traditional in open vats, 100% malolactic.
Ageing: 10 to 12 months in oak barrels, 40% new
Barrels: Tonnellerie Louis Latour, French oak, medium toast
Tasting note : With its deep ruby colour, our Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru "Les Charmes" 2014 offers a nose of liquorice, blackcurrant and undergrowth. The palate is full and fresh and reveals aromas of red fruits and chlorophyll. Very nice persistence.
Food/wine pairing : Duck and truffle parmentier - capon - woodcock salmi - wild boar with cranberries - Brillat-Savarin.
