Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2018 - Louis Latour
Maison Louis Latour
95/100 Wine Spectator
Tasting note on 31 July 2021: "Fresh and fruity, with aromas and flavours of lemon, pear, white flowers and stone, showing great tension and an underlying mineral component that gives it energy and length. The lemon theme continues on the lingering aftertaste, with buttery and pastry accents. Drink it from 2022 to 2029." BS
Grape Variety : Chardonnay
Average age: 30 years old
Subsoil: Limestone
Average yield: 40 hl/ha
Harvest : Manual
Ageing potential: 15-20 years

Description : After the ravages of Phylloxera at the end of the 19th century, the Louis Latour family decided to pull up the dead vines of Aligoté and Pinot Noir and replace them with Chardonnay. Today, with 10.5 hectares, Louis Latour is the largest owner of this Grand Cru. Our Corton-Charlemagne vineyard is located in the best part of the Corton hillside, where the south-east exposure provides the vines with ideal sunshine and a perfect balance between acidity and maturity of the grapes.
Fermentation: Traditional in oak barrels, 100% malolactic.
Ageing: 8 to 10 months in oak barrels, 100% new
Barrels: Tonnellerie Louis Latour, French oak, medium toast
Tasting: Our Corton-Charlemagne 2018 has a magnificent pale yellow colour and reveals a complex nose of fresh almond, roasted hazelnut and smoky notes. The palate is powerful with notes of yellow fruit and vanilla. One notes a beautiful persistence on the palate.
Food and wine pairing : Large crustaceans - lobster - foie gras - fish - ripened cheeses
