Musigny Grand Cru 2014 - Jacques Prieur
(95 - 97)/100 Parker
Cellaring potential : 2019 - 2040
By Neal Martin in 2015: "The 2014 Musigny Grand Cru has a deep, dark colour. The nose is very refined with a very good minerality that comes out with aeration, slightly floral. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, a little grainy in texture, very harmonious and classy -- among the best I've tasted. Not quite as sensual as, say, Domaine de la Vougeraie, but perhaps even more taut. This is an exceptional Musigny."
GRAPE VARIETY & SURFACE AREA
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir with white juice on a plot of 0.77 hectares.
TERROIR
We are here in one of the greatest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits. Situated on a fault overlooking the Clos de Vougeot and adjoining the Combe d'Orveau. The south-east facing Musigny benefits from a confined and sunny micro-climate. Its thin and light soil with a strong presence of stones, guaranteeing good drainage, reinforces this impression of warmth. The grapes, always swollen with sunshine and at ideal ripeness, give birth to a velvety nectar with floral notes of violets that linger in the mouth.
VINIFICATION & MATURING
The grapes are hand-picked, then sorted and completely destemmed. The vatting period lasted 20 days at controlled temperature in wooden vats. We punch the cap twice a day during the active phase of alcoholic fermentation. The malolactic fermentation is 100% complete. Maturing is 100% in new oak barrels.
Duration of maturing: 21 months.
TASTING NOTES :
DRESS: Sumptuous dark red-black with deep garnet reflections.
NOSE: Full of elegance and finesse with refined floral and fruity notes.
PALATE: Velvety and very satiny to the touch with notes of ripe, fresh black fruit and nutmeg-like spices, evolving on mentholated notes. The tannins on the finish are dense, rich, ripe and digestible.
