Volnay 1er Cru Champans 2018 - Blain Gagnard
Tasting: The impressively pure nose offers notes of red currant with earth, spices and plum. On the palate, the wine is milkier and more refined than the Pitures, with intensely mineral flavors and the elegant muscularity one would expect to find in a manual of Champans. In short, it is impressive but very serious and patience will be absolutely necessary. Garde : 2020 - 2028+ ;
Grape Variety: Pinot Noir
Vinification: This is one of the most beautiful estates in Burgundy, where vinification involves only minimal intervention. New oak barrels are never used to excess, being subtly distributed between the different vintages, so that the woody/spicy side is not perceptible. Domaine Blain Gagnard is also careful with bâtonnage which, if used to excess, can give heavy wines with a floury taste. Here, on the contrary, the finished wines have a great purity of fruit, with a balanced acidity and long, clean flavors that clearly evoke the precise origin of the wines.
